AB-CT – Advanced Breast-CT introduces Australia’s first spiral breast CT with photon-counting technology
• Designed specifically for women’s breast imaging
• Superimposition-free, true 3D resolution
• No compression, dose in the range of mammography
Erlangen, Germany / Melbourne, Australia – February 26, 2026
AB-CT – Advanced Breast-CT, an innovative MedTech company from Erlangen, Germany, has entered the Australian market with the installation of its spiral breast CT, nu:view, at Malvern Breast Imaging in Melbourne. This introduction brings compression-free 3D breast imaging for women to Australia for the first time and marks a further step in AB-CT’s international expansion. The system is locally distributed by EPIC-X, Sydney, and is listed for clinical use by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
nu:view is the world’s first spiral breast CT based on photon-counting technology. Developed exclusively for diagnostic imaging of the female breast, the system combines spiral CT acquisition with direct photon-counting detectors to enable superimposition-free, true isotropic 3D resolution.
The examination is performed in the prone position and without breast compression, within seconds, and with a radiation dose in the range of mammography.
By eliminating tissue overlaps and enabling high-resolution volumetric imaging, nu:view supports greater diagnostic confidence, particularly in dense breast tissue and complex clinical findings. Voxel sizes down to 90 µm enable excellent detection of microcalcifications.
Malvern Breast Imaging in Melbourne, led by Dr Narges Sobhani, MD, FRANZCR, is a specialist radiology practice dedicated exclusively to breast health. The practice provides comprehensive diagnostic services including digital mammography, breast ultrasound and MRI, with a strong focus on diagnostic accuracy, early detection and patient-centered care.
Bernd Schleicher, CEO of AB-CT – Advanced Breast-CT, commented:
“We are grateful for the outstanding cooperation with Dr. Narges Sobhani and her team at Malvern Breast Imaging and our partners at EPIC-X. With nu:view, we offer a unique breast CT based on our guiding principle of “Thinking Women!”. The system was designed specifically for high-precision breast imaging, giving women greater confidence in the accuracy of their breast diagnostics. The launch in Australia represents an important milestone in our ongoing international growth.”
Chandrashekhar Bapat and Prakash Subbarao, Directors of EPIC-X, added:
“We are proud to introduce nu:view to the Australian market in partnership with AB-CT and Malvern Breast Imaging. This first installation expands women’s access to dedicated spiral breast CT technology and supports high-quality, patient-focused breast diagnostics.”
The launch in Melbourne was accompanied by educational events for referring clinicians and general practitioners, focusing on the clinical positioning of spiral breast CT within modern breast diagnostic pathways.
nu:view is already in clinical use at university hospitals and radiology practices in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and South Korea.
About AB-CT – Advanced Breast-CT
AB-CT is an innovative medical technology company based in Erlangen, Germany. nu:view is the world’s first dedicated spiral breast CT with direct photon-counting detectors. It enables a new dimension in 3D diagnostics, without breast compression, with high resolution, and a radiation dose in the range of mammography. The technology is based on the pioneering work of Prof. Dr. Willi Kalender, the inventor of spiral CT. In line with modern, women-centered medical technology, AB-CT’s breast CT system nu:view embodies a clear commitment to “Thinking Women!” At its core are the needs of women for pain-free examinations and greater confidence in their breast diagnostics.
